So. DESPITE the fact that I am not a primarily visual artist, I am obsessed with webcomics, and would love to try my hand at writing one... except I can't draw. *CRY* Anyway, I thought I'd kick this thing off with a list of all the webcomics I read on a regular basis, so establish some sort of baseline for my taste, or lack thereof, in the realm of the pretties of the web. Here goes nothing:
THE DAILIES
American Gothic - trashy, trashy, trashy, (so far) brief saga of an American witch, her adventures after falling in with a group of werewolves, and the vampire who (loves? lusts after? has an unhealthy obsession with? We'll settle for) hangs around her rather a lot.
Bunny - One panel, slightly surreal deal following three bunnies through absurd situations. Not laugh-out loud, but it amuses me.
Planet Karen - The visual diary of a poor, slightly depressed artist in London. Reads at times like the LiveJournal of a 15 year old girl. For some reason, I can't stop reading it.
THE NOT-QUITE DAILIES
Something Positive - If you haven't heard of it, Randy Milhound is one of the most bitter, twisted, and cynical comix writers on the web. Pure joy.
Least I Could Do - follows the sexcapades of a modern-day Casanova, without the actual caring-for-the-women. Horribly, horribly misogynistic. I should stop reading this one out of protest, but somehow... I can't.
THE WEEK-DAILIES
Dinosaur Comics - One picture. One thousand variations. One million geeky jokes. Ryan North, I love you.
Misfile - Pot-smoking angel mixes up the files of two humans, turning a race-car driving boy into a race-car driving girl and setting a Harvard-bound girl back two years in her life. Complications ensue. Not the funniest comic ever, but hey, with a concept like that...
Questionable Content - Sex, coffee, and indie rock. Rule 34, Anthro-PCs, and Dune. Drama, romance, and a guaranteed minimum of two laugh-out-loud moments per strip. Pretty much my favorite webcomic.
THE THREE-TIMES-A-WEEK-ERS
Girl Genius 101 - Brilliant gaslamp fantasy (read: kick-ass steampunk) websaga following the adventures of the spark Agatha Clay, who is not all she seems. The plot is half the joy of this one, so I won't spoil it, but I will say that I stayed up until 4 AM reading through the archives of this one. Also? Gil is mine.
Megatokyo - needs no introduction. Basically, don't start reading this one; you will be drawn in, and held in thrall, waiting on Piro's highly irregular update times. Great manga. Lousy webcomic.
Penny and Aggie - Two high school girls. Seemingly endless quantities of hatred. What's not to like?
Penny Arcade - This one needs no introduction. If you don't know it, go read the damn thing.
Red String - Sappy manga dealing with True Love and Whatever Shall I Do Now That I've Found It. I've stopped reading this one a couple of times, but like an old, bad penny, it always comes back.
THE TWICE-A-WEEK-ERS
Applegeeks - A Creation, and the Mad Mac Lover who made her. Not always possessed of the most coherent plot, it nonetheless is consistently very pretty.
Crimson Dark - Gorgeous CGI scifi comic. I hate to make the comparison, but it is incredibly reminiscent of Firefly. I don't really care, because hey, more Firefly.
Suicide for Hire - It's a story about a couple of teens who start a treehouse business in helping people kill themselves, and the effects on their mind because of it. Don't expect it to be lighthearted, but do expect lots of black humor.
THE LAZY ONES
VG Cats - nominally updated biweekly - funny gamer comic featuring cats. It's famous enough that I think that suffices.
Crowfeathers - The Wild West, with demons, undead, and one half-Thunderbird, Half-human out to make his way. Lots of strategically placed blood. Also, the author posts a chapter a month, instead of a page every couple of days; it works for the story, but drives me nuts.
Gone with the Blastwave - Black humor comic about a couple of soldiers stuck in a city with no map, no reinforcements, and nothing to do but think up new and interesting ways to kill people. Absolutely hilareous, but the author updates on a rigorous basis of Whenever the Hell She Feels Like It.
That's all for now, folks!
